European - Egyptian Contemporary Music Society e.V.

European - Egyptian Contemporary Music Society e.V.

Was established following the successful first Contemporary Music Biennale 2009 in Egypt, a project involving the cooperation of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the Cairo Opera House. It is a not-for-profit organization based in Germany for the management of future festivals, concerts and other projects. The European – Egyptian Music Contemporary Society e. V. wishes to develop cultural relationships at a national and international level.

The society aims to promote contemporary music in all its forms in Egypt and the wider Arab world through strengthening ties to musicians, ensembles and institutions in Europe and across the world. It wishes to develop understanding between cultures through the exploration and experience of a modern musical language, as well as encouraging and promoting the national language of Egyptian contemporary music.

Relationships built with other cultural foundations worldwide will help realise the objectives of the EECMS Society, including those for this professional Egyptian Contemporary Music Ensemble. It aspires to provide opportunities through which Egyptian musicians and composers can broaden their experience and share their unique background, as well as initiate commissions for new works, with a focus on composers in Egypt and the Arab region.

In Egypt it has been a great honour to work with the Bibliotheca Alexandrina since 2009, and now again collaborating to present the Alexandrina Contemporary Music Biennale II April 2011. Together with the American University in Cairo we look forward to an exciting and rewarding cultural endeavour.
